Curriculum Calibration Collection and Presentation of Findings

Curriculum Calibration is the collection and analysis of student work to measure the percentage of alignment of assignments to grade level state standards. (Calibration determines the percentage of assignments on grade level.)



  Why is the Curriculum Calibration Collection and presentation of findings valuable?

Students must be taught on grade level because:

  1. Grade-level instruction provides equal opportunity for all students to learn.
  2. Students cannot learn what they’re not taught.
  3. Students perform no higher than the assignments given.
  4. Students learn more when taught at a higher level than at a lower level.
  5. State tests assess grade-level content.

THE GOAL OF INSTRUCTION IS HIGH STUDENT SUCCESS ON GRADE-LEVEL CONTENT.



  What is the Curriculum Calibration Collection and presentation of findings and how does it work?

The Curriculum Calibration Collection and Presentation was developed based on DataWORKS research including collection and analysis of over 2.3 million assignments from 48,000 classroom teachers. Student work is collected from a school and analyzed for alignment to the state content standards. DataWORKS sends folders to the school. Each teacher selects three students (one low, one medium, and one high performing) and collects all the students’ work for a week. The work is sent to DataWORKS for analysis.

Reports are made for:

  • Alignment to Grade-level
  • Breadth of coverage of strands
  • Source of work (teacher prepared, textbook, commercial worksheet, etc.)
  • Type of work (homework, test, guided practice, etc.)
